Dresden, Barrier-free Playground

Step‑free learning and play space at the Prof. Dr. Rainer Fetscher School in Dresden

In collaboration between the city administration and landscape architects, together with teachers, therapists and the support association, a concept was developed to renew the outdoor areas of the Prof. Dr. Rainer Fetscher School in Dresden.

The play structure made from untreated robinia meets the regulatory requirements for accessibility. Swinging in the ‘swing forest’ promotes communication and movement alike, as swinging fun. The multi‑sports area also gives wheelchair users the opportunity to be active. The play offer is rounded off by individual items that can be approached underneath, such as a rotating sculpture, xylophone, ball game, mini football table or sliding game, supporting therapeutic aims.

A real magnet – because it’s pure fun for children with and without disabilities – is the accessible wheelchair carousel.
